A two-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mum after finding a gun hidden in her purse as they browsed a supermarket. Veronica J. Rutledge was shopping in a branch of Walmart with three other children when the child somehow reached into her bag and pulled the trigger. A spokesman for the Kootenai County Sheriff’s department said: "Preliminary investigation shows that the female was shopping with her two-year-old son and other family members. "Her son was seated in the shopping cart and accessed the woman’s concealed weapon from her purse and discharged it, striking the victim." Police confirmed Ms Rutledge did own a permit to carry a concealed weapon and said the shooting was a tragic accident. It is understood Ms Rutledge was visiting family in Hayden, Idaho. Her father-in-law told KREM-News the shooting was "tragic." He added the family had "lost a beautiful, loving mother." May she rest in peace.

Heavy gunfire has erupted near the presidential palace in The Gambia's capital, Banjul, reports say. Details are sketchy but accorinding to AFP news agency reports, military and diplomatic sources say soldiers from the presidential guard tried to stage a coup. The fighting was reported while President Yahya Jammeh is abroad. Mr Jammeh seized power in a coup in 1994 and his critics accuse him of leading one of the most repressive regimes in Africa. There has been no official comment on the shooting, but a military source told AFP that the attackers had been beaten back. "They wanted to overthrow the regime," the unnamed officer is quoted as saying. Some media reports say Mr Jammeh is on a visit to France, while others say he is in Dubai. In 2011, Mr Jammeh told the BBC he would rule The Gambia for "a billion years".

Indonesian officials coming off a helicopter on Borneo island say they spotted several bodies floating in waters near where the missing AirAsia flight was last seen. Images on local television showed at least one bloated corpse. The bodies, swollen but intact, were brought to an Indonesian navy ship, National Search and Rescue Director SB Supriyadi told reporters in the nearest town, Pangkalan Bun. The corpses did not have life jackets on. Navy spokesman Manahan Simorangkir confirmed the discovery to TVOne, saying several victims were found, but he did not indicate whether they were dead or alive. Air Force spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto told MetroTV at least one body was found.

All the Sony hacking uproar surrounding the release of The Interview has paid off. The production studio announced on Wednesday afternoon that they would not only be releasing the film in select theaters, but they would also be allowing people to purchase and stream the film from home for $5.99. In just the first four days of the comedy's release, The Interview earned $15 million in online sales and rentals, and garnered over 2 million streams. It's still not looking like Sony will make their money back. The Interview cost about $44 million to make and that doesn't count marketing costs. Prior to security scares, the comedy was to open in 2,000 to 3,000 theaters which would have given the film more of an opportunity to gross more money. Former head of state and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general elections, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has explained why he did not submit his certificates and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying that the documents are with the military. Explaining the development in an affidavit he deposed to before an Abuja High Court, Buhari said that all his certificates were with the Secretary, Military Board.
