So Sad! Mum Accidentally Shot Dead By Two-year-old Son

A two-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mum after finding a gun hidden in her purse as they browsed a supermarket.

Veronica J. Rutledge was shopping in a branch of Walmart with three other children when the child somehow reached into her bag and pulled the trigger.

A spokesman for the Kootenai County Sheriff’s department said: "Preliminary investigation shows that the female was shopping with her two-year-old son and other family members.

"Her son was seated in the shopping cart and accessed the woman’s concealed weapon from her purse and discharged it, striking the victim."

Police confirmed Ms Rutledge did own a permit to carry a concealed weapon and said the shooting was a tragic accident.

It is understood Ms Rutledge was visiting family in Hayden, Idaho.

Her father-in-law told KREM-News the shooting was "tragic."

He added the family had "lost a beautiful, loving mother."
